NECBL Players of the Week for August 2nd

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Ocean State catcher and outfielder Nicholas Cimillo (Manhattan) and North Shore right-handed pitcher Luke Marshall (Stonehill) have been named the New England Collegiate Baseball League’s (NECBL) Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for the ninth and final edition of the 2021’s regular season.

Cimillo was among the league’s most productive offensive performers over the last seven days. His .591 average and 13 total hits were both the most in the NECBL during that span. He produced eight runs scored, a double, two homers and five RBIs, as well, to help Ocean State pick up three wins over the final week of the regular season. The catcher and right fielder had at least one hit in all but seven of his games played while logging five games with two or more hits, including a pair of three-hit outings. He also posted a 1.549 OPS in that span, the best in the league among players with 10 or more plate appearances.

In 14 games with the Waves, Cimillo – a rising senior at Manhattan – is batting over .400 (.429) with 18 hits in 42 at-bats. He has 11 runs scored, three doubles, two home runs and seven RBIs in that span and is slashing .429 / .459 / .643, all good for a 1.132 OPS on the summer. The All-MAAC Second Team honoree hit .284 (31-of-109) with a team-best 29 runs (10th in the MAAC), six doubles, six home runs (t-9th MAAC) and 19 RBIs for the Jaspers this past spring.

The only player in the NECBL to earn multiple weekly awards this summer, Marshall – who posted a stellar month of July – wrapped up his regular season with as dominant of an outing by a starter thus far. The right-hander fanned 11 of the 20 batters he faced over six scoreless innings in a win over Winnipesaukee on July 28. He walked just one batter and allowed a single hit over that span to lower his season ERA to 3.07 and his WHIP underneath 1 (0.90), while his WHIP for the outing was just 0.33.

After eight games (all starts), the rising senior at Stonehill now ranks in the top-five in the NECBL in both ERA and strikeouts, as he has now fanned 50 batters over 41 innings pitched while limiting hitters to a meager .149 batting average against. The Swampscott, Massachusetts, native was a Northeast-10 Conference All-League Third Team honoree this past spring after fanning 46 over 43-1/3 innings while going 2-2 on the bump.

Week 9 Honor Roll – Position PlayersZach Bushling (Keene), Bryce Hulett (Newport), Charles Middleton (North Adams), Alan Roden (Upper Valley), Austin White (Bristol)
Week 9 Honor Roll – PitchersNelson Berkwich (Newport), Alex Bryant (Vermont), Ryan Dee (Winnipesaukee), Jack Keenan (Upper Valley), Liam LeVangie (Newport)
